So for the past 2 weeks I’ve slacked off. Both unintentionally and intentionally. I’m resetting. Why? Because I found that when I track what I eat for too long then I start to really make a bad relationship with food worse. I’ve been trying to be precise for years and for me, that’s way too long.
In my slacking I noticed something profound that I’ve never really noticed to this degree before. I’m beat. Not just tired. But I feel like crap! Even knowing everything that I do about fitness and health, it took me a bit to figure out why.
Eating well gives you the macronutrients and micronutrients that your body needs to function well. Not just function like I have been doing the past few days (barely) but function WELL. What you eat is a huge part of where your energy, hair and skin growth, strength, and mental health come from. The saying “garbage in, garbage out” is major true! If you put in crappy food, you’re going to feel crappy. If you put in good food, you’re going to feel good! Don’t believe me? Make a change the opposite way for a while. You’ll notice the difference. My body has gotten to the point where I CAN’T eat horrible for any length of time anymore. I just simply feel like garbage. That, I will celebrate because I’ve crossed a healthy threshold. My body is literally pissed at me for what I’ve been doing. I don’t like it and I’m glad I don’t. There was a point where it didn’t matter. It does now and it can for you too.
It’s the same with getting regular exercise. I’m going to be super honest and transparent and tell you that I haven’t worked out in 2 weeks. Why? I honestly couldn’t tell you why. There’s no excuse. Depression from not eating well maybe. But guess what? Yesterday my anxiety got so bad I almost went to the hospital to make sure I was physically ok. I’ve also been physically just dog tired. The energy demands just aren’t there anymore. I haven’t felt that in a long time. It’s been a long time since I took a real workout break.
So I’ll repeat what I said about food. If you treat your body well it’ll function well for you. If you treat it like crap it’ll function crappy for you.
So… back to the grind. I hope my experience has taught you that if you’re not taking care of your body you don’t realize how good you can feel if you’d just work on developing better habits. If you’re making great choices keep it up! Don’t stop. You can take feeling good for granted and, trust me, you can’t afford to lose the good feeling.
